Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Sparkee
Sparkee

John Twoface Sputnik.JPG (126 KB) Sparkee came into our life as a foster. After only five days we knew we were not going to give him back. Peter actually called us "Foster Failures". Who cares. We've been called worse. "My name is now Sputnik (which is Russian for "earth travel companion") and I am truly a great travel companion. I get to go camping just about every two weeks with my mommy, daddy, and big brother Two-Face. Thank goodness we camp in an RV because I don't like all those creatures that move around at night. I like luxury better. I have hiked more than 50 miles since I've been adopted. Please see the attached picture of me. I am the little guy on the right with my Daddy and my big brother. They even put a jacket on me when its cold. I feel like I've been a part of this family forever. Thank you A Second Chance for giving me a second chance when you rescued me heartworm positive and all. No one else would have treated me as you did and find me such a wonderful mommy and daddy. Yours truly, Sputnik P.S. Sputnik has brought so much joy to our life. He came at the perfect time since unbeknown to us our precious "Lady" passed away just one week after we got Sputnik. She must have known Sputnik would try to help fill the huge void her passing left in our hearts. Thank you A Second Chance John and Ann Wilson

Spirit
Spirit

Hey Kathy, Just a quick letter to let you know Sprite (formerly Spirit) is doing beautifully. Just this Monday she had her 12 week checkup and shots and was given a clean bill of health. She is simply a wonderful addition to our family and is loved enormously. I've included a few pictures which naturally she has doubled in size since they were taken. Thanks again, Rob

Jupiter
Jupiter

We absolutely love Jupiter. We've renamed him Dewey. He is doing very well. He is a very sweet, lovable dog. He loves affection, and is very sweet when he wants to be pet and loved. But when he wants to play or wants more attention, he bites. Hard! He has lots of running time, and has an assortment of toys and soup bones he knaws on, and we try to turn his attention to these when he starts biting us, but he still seems to prefer to bite us. He loves to play with his toys and I hear him in the other room making his toy squeek right now. He learned to sit and come very quickly, and he is learning to stay. Although he is not totally house broken yet, he is well on his way. He was very afraid of any loud noise or sudden movement when we first got him, and he is still a little skittish, but seems to be growing out of it. He also ran the very first time he saw a leash in my hand! When I hooked it onto his collar he started yelping and crying and flipping himself around. I picked him up and calmed him down, and took him outside and set him in the yard with the leash on, and He started yelping again, so loud that my entire family and a neighbor came running over! There he was flipping around when I wasn't even holding the other end of the leash! We all just stood there watching him. Finally he calmed down, but as soon as I touched the leash, he started again. He still acts terrible when he sees the leash, but we put it on him and make him walk around with it on anyway, and he seems to be getting used to it.

Rumour
Rumour

Love to see that you guys really follow up!!! Rumor (now LOUBOUTIN aka: LULU) is doing great!!! I will send more photos... Fully housebroken, horse safe and had all her doggie brothers and sisters. She loves all the kids at the barn.. and they just adore her. By the time she comes in at night when our work day is done, she is exhausted and sleeps through the night. Then its up and chasing horses and goats and kids again!!! Regards, Meredith Waring

Ju Bill Lee
Ju Bill Lee

Hi: Spencer is a beautiful puppy. He's adjusted very well to our family. Growing fast but still as cute as a button. He was 20 lbs at our first visit with Dr. Fox, Saturday he weighted 27 lbs! Picture attached. He's enrolled in Behavioral Training Classes, week 3 this Saturday. He gets lots of exercise with our grandchildren who visit everyday after school. We were very happy with the entire adoption procedure. Are only questions/concerns were how much crate training he had and he really could have used a bath. He was really, really stinky. We thank you and are recommending you to anyone thinking about getting a pet. Thanks, Rosemarie and Stuart Taylor
