Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Scrappy

Cody is adjusting quite well in his new home. He loves all the attention we give him and he has really taken a liking to our our three year old dog Suzie. They get along really well and love running around in the yard chasing each other. He is growing and very healthy - he's put on a few pounds since we got him. The vet visit at Riverbridge went well and he's got no health issues. We're very happy with Cody and love him so much. He has given us so much pleasure and enjoyment already and has made such an excellent addition to our home! Thank you so much for bringing Cody and my family together!

Thank you for your follow up email. I had written to Jackie Blackie's (now named Pepper) foster mom on 9/12. I apologize you didn't receive a copy. I will send the email along with this one. As an addendum to our 9/12 email I need to add: Pepper has adopted us as her family, as much as we have her. Our family feels complete with her in our home. She loves to sit in our laps and is always very near to one of us. She absolutely loves car rides and never hesitates to be at the door knowing we are leaving (even if she can't go...and this breaks her heart, and ours). She has a fenced in backyard and has become more curious everyday sniffing the scents and breezes. Occasional accidents have occur ed in the house, but she is not punished. Mostly, they happened because we needed to adjust to a routine with her. Our two cats and her get along very well. Basically, they appear to have lived together all their lives. The ONLY problem we have had with the adoption.... We went to have her groomed at Pet Smart in Jensen Beach and the only problem we have had with the adoption is her Rabies Certificate. When we visited Dr. Fox he had given us a typed paper with the Rabies vaccination information. To provide evidence of her vaccine at Pet Smart, we took in this paper. They denied us the grooming stating that "anyone could have typed this paper", and they needed a Certificate of Vaccination. Dr. Fox had not given us a Rabies tag as we live in St. Lucie County not Palm Beach. His suggestion was for us to find a local vet and then request him to process the necessary paperwork for the vaccine. As of today, I haven't followed up with this yet. I think I am feeling a little perturbed since we followed all the recommendations from the adoption package. we asked him to also give her additional vaccines. I can only hope that this will be validated by her vet here. Perhaps there can be alternatives for the follow up visit with out of county adoptions. Nonetheless....we wouldn't have change Peppers adoption for the world. She is now with her Forever Family and we love her very much. THANK YOU so very much, for the hard work you do to save the lives of our four legged friends!! God's Speed Sandy Perkins and Mark Wilkinson

Hi Kathy, So nice of you to check up on Maggie (FKA Opal)! I let her know that you were asking about her. She is currently sitting under my desk curled up sleeping. She is doing wonderfully and well acclimated to our home. Above are some pictures I took of her at the beginning of the month. She loves to go outside in the yard (while I am gardening or sitting by the pool) and watch the birds and squirrels. We did have quite a few bunnies before she came, but she especially loves to chase them around the yard, so they don't come by too often anymore. The second picture from the top I took of her as she was watching a squirrel scurry along the stockade fence. Sometimes the squirrels come down to check her out. Maggie races across the yard after them and the next thing you know they are "raising cane" with her from the top of the pine tree. She absolutely loves to sit out in the yard and warm herself in the sun. I did have her in the pool a couple weeks ago, but she just stood there waiting for me to tell her it was okay to get out. She prefers to watch from a distance The last picture is of her with her pet dog in her bed. She LOVES to sleep and is in her bed or on her chenille rug most of the time when she is in the house. She gets quite irritable if she doesn't get her twenty hours of beauty sleep each day. Maggie is a sweet and loving dog. We enjoy her every day. She has become a welcome member of the family. We plan to take her up to Chattanooga in December to meet my daughter and her family. We would love to buy a couple raffle tickets. I will send the money out in tomorrow's mail. Have a super week! Judith

Louie is doing just fine. He likes natural dog food, no potatoes or grains. He has taking a found liking to rolls of toilet paper, shredding them when he can. It only took 3 rolls to train us. Yes it’s up higher now. He likes the back yard, it seams he has mole in his family, when he thinks your not looking he starts a hole. I guess his favorite toy is a soft turtle, if you lie on the floor and throw it he will bring it back, laying down next to you for a little tug of war. All and all we are having fun. That’s it for now. Thanks for finding him. See Ya Craig & Barbara Berns -- This message was scanned by ESVA and is believed to be clean. Click here to report this message as spam.

Hi, Thank you for giving us Juno(Diva) she is an amazing girl, crazy as ever but still getting along beautifully with the other cats and she is getting big. The only question i have for you is this, she tries to get cuddly but when she does she bites, hard. My oldest cat Vinn is a Main Coon and he gives "love bites" but they are not hard. Juno will get close gives tons of kisses and then bites extremely hard, this isnt an issue with our love for her but i was just wondering if you have heard of this and if so do you have any tips to get rid of it bc i want so bad to just hold and cuddle her but, for example, last night she bit my chin and left a small mark. But i repeat, she is so cuddly and comes over for just attention and loves but will bite between kisses. Hope you can help, but thank you again for giving us another addition to the family she is fun to watch and just have.
