Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Niko
Niko

So sorry it has taken so long for me to write this. Niko is doing fantastic! He has been a great addition to our family. We just about have Niko fully potty trained. He is just as lovable as the first day we got him. He still likes to bury his nose into my neck. We have nicknamed him Mr. Licksalot because that's all he wants to do. Niko and my other dog Koda get along wonderfully. Its like they were meant to be brothers. So thank you so much for allowing us to adopt him. The Smith Family

Carissa
Carissa

Our little dog now called Maggie is the most wonderfull pet anyone could have. She is the most social little girl, it's amazing, just wants to meet everyone, the most loveable dog, and we are just learning how to play . We have the "house training" down pretty good at this point, We just love her to death. She does have demodectic manage but we have medication (invermectin), hopefully this will be cleared up soon. Thank you for letting us adopt Maggie because she is a big part of our life Jim & Jean Noakes

Slinky

It is nice to hear from you and I'm happy to say that Captain Jack (formerly Slinky) has been doing great! He has adjusted to his new forever home very well and we cannot be more thrilled to have him as a part of our family. He is such a sweetheart and when he is not out on one of his adventures he spends most of his time snuggling with us. Speaking of his adventures, he gets a walk to the marina by our house every day where he meets his many friends to play. His favorite adventure though is boating. He loves swimming and even has his own raft where he can relax and take a break when he is tired of swimming and playing with the other boat dogs. Captain also got to take a road trip for the 4th of July to our family's lake house in Georgia where he got to swim in the lake with his cousin Charlie Dog, go tubing down the Chattahoochee River and hike the Appalachian Trail! He was so tuckered out from his vacation that he slept almost the whole drive home :) Needless to say, Brett and I are so happy to have found Captain. We comment almost every day on how lucky we are to have found such a great dog. He has brought a tremendous amount of joy to our lives and judging by his frequent smiles and kisses he's pretty happy with his new forever home too! Amanda & Brett McCoy

Neptune
Neptune

Sorry for the impersonal email, but I do not have your name and wish to respond to your note. Neptune has adjusted rather well in our home and continues to be a constant supply of good cheer and positive energy when he is not messing up the house. We have tried most of the tricks that we know from the past 5 dogs that we owned but for some reason he is having some difficulties. I guess he is just a slow learner on this. He has formed a lovely relationship with our older dog Lindsey and they play together very nicely. It was a little touch and go at first, but they seem genuinely happy to play together, which is why this has become a little more of a challenge. You must understand that we love the dogs in our home and while no one wants to spend their time cleaning up dog mess, we all feel that if they are getting along so well they should be able to spend their time together rather than segregating the younger Neptune in his cage. Therefore, we try to supervise them closely and make sure that we take Neptune out every 1-1.5 hours and reward him with a treat if he completes his mission. But the dog has a very weak or small bladder and often has an accident. In any event, he has grown quite a bit, is cute and adorable, cheerful and happy, and hopefully the source of many years of enjoyment. Myriam and Michael Engelhardt

Oly
Oly

kathy just to let you know that oly is now emmie in our family. she is truly the love of our lives. her relationship with our 12 year old beagle is the cutest thing you could imagine. they have found a true love in each other. emmie is a quick learner and a very bright animal. we can't imagine what life was like without her. she has brought so much joy back into our household since we lost our 14and a half yr old beagle this summer. emmie is about ten pounds already and loves her food. she is really a very easy puppy to train and of course love so very much. she is so much apart of our daily routine and we just can't wait to come home to her after work. thanks again for bringing this most special animal into our lives. hope her sisters are all doing well beth and alan Alan J.
